D2C is moving from side project to operating model

There's a shift in language in the industry: direct-to-consumer is becoming an operating model. The signal is not just that web stores exist, but that teams are staffing around them, measuring repeat buyers, and treating web revenue as part of the core plan.

MobileGamer.biz predicts that D2C would evolve from a side project into a core line of business in 2026. That framing matters because web stores need more than a checkout link. They need CRM, offers, support, compliance, attribution, merchandising, and lifecycle planning.

For mobile games, the practical question is how quickly the organization can build the muscles around the store. A title can launch a web checkout before it has a mature D2C motion, but long-term performance depends on whether the team can keep giving players a reason to come back.
